Tatiana, something which has worked for me in the past, if the students are willing, is for them to make small labels for things in their homes, putting for example a label with the word 'door' on a door. This can be done with a large number of objects in the home and if the student keeps seeing the label on the item, they will assimilate the vocabulary. Some students might not like this idea but generally the more serious ones will see its value. I look forward to teaching in Brazil very soon!

You have to cultivate a habit of using the dictionary. You can also prepare very well before hand because they say proper planning prevents poor performance. You can also consult good material.

I am a frequent visitor of your site and I am really glad that I can contribute something from my experience of TEFL.
Students (young or old) find games and competitions more stimulating than the daily routine. Therefore, I present to them such activities as memory games, group games, competitions and STAD activities in groups (students teach their colleagues and share "responsibility" for their achievements).
Rarely have I faced a situation where these activities do not work.
