Teaching English

Class size

Earlier this year we saw how teachers' working hours varied across the world. Another area of great variation is class size.

On average, how many students are in your classes?

I firmly believe that the number of the students in a class can affect the way the teacher teaches and at the same time the way the students learn. Some teachers believe that the more, the merrier but not in a class where we use the communicative approach.

In smaller classes, there can be better interaction among the students or a good one between a teacher and a student. In these classes you can have a better feedback from the students or groups. You always have the chance to find out how successful you have been with your teaching. In Iran, students are no longer willing to take part in very crowded classes.

Sometimes not all students actually attend your classes. While this is not advisable to happen, the less students are present and work with you, the more benefits they can get.

The company i work for has a strong policy of only 8 - 15 students per classrooms, there have been exceptions, however, we've discover that with 8 - 15 students per classroom, we can personalize the classes a little bit more.

Hello from Egypt,

There are about 17 students in my class but it is alright.

We do a lot of groups' practice during the class.

I have taught refugees in Refugee Egypt and I found the suitable number of student between 10 and 12.

Because nearly all of them haven't learned anything before, so they don't need a very big number.

The big number sometimes make them cannot understand me.

I would prefer the number to be beyween 10 an 15.

Regards,

Helbees
