I have been an English Teacher for more than two decades.
I have tried to use games, stories and songs to teach English Grammar.
If you have any ideas, please share it.
Let me share my experience.
I use the story of Pied Piper to teach passive voice.
I use the following songs written by me to teach Tenses and Prepositions.
Please send me your opinions and ideas.
I will be very thankful to you.
NATURE
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
You’re Eeshwar! You’re Jesus!
You’re Allah! You’re our God!
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
You give us air and bring us water!
Our clothes and house, we get from you!
You produce food and grant us life!
Our health and wealth, we get from you!
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
You inspire us in arts and letters!
We learn duty, we earn beauty
And get knowledge only from you!
We form culture only through you!
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
We grow forests and save wild beasts!
We have one child, a girl or boy!
We sing and dance and share the joy!
This is the way we worship you!
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
We read and write and get knowledge!
We all work hard and share the wealth!
We keep home clean and share the health!
This is the way we worship you!
O … O… Nature! O … O… Nature!
THE SONG OF RADHA AND KRISHNA – 1
Are you listening to me?
Are you thinking of me?
The Moon is shining
And the stars are smiling!
The Yamna is flowing
And a breeze is blowing!
Come here, darling!
I’m waiting for you!
I’m listening to you!
I’m thinking of you!
Your face is gleaming
So the Moon is glooming!
Your eyes are sparkling
So the stars are parting!
I’m thinking of you!
I’m waiting for you!
Are you listening to me?
Are you thinking of me?
The jasmines are blooming
And the bees are humming!
The cuckoo is singing
And the peacock is dancing!
Come here, darling!
I’m waiting for you!
I’m listening to you!
I’m thinking of you!
Your song’s enchanting
So the cuckoo’s flying!
Your dance’s well pleasing
So the peacock’s fleeing!
I’m thinking of you!
I’m waiting for you!
Love’s in us
So God is in us!
The clouds are showering!
The plants are flowering!
The world is running
As love is reigning!
Love’s in us
So God is in us!
THE SONG OF RADHA AND KRISHNA – 2
I have not seen you
For days fourteen!
Where have you been, dear,
Where have you been?
I’ve been to Ireland!
I’ve brought a garland!
I’ve been to Puree!
I’ve bought a sari!
I have not seen you
For days fourteen!
Where have you been, dear,
Where have you been?
I’ve been to Congo!
I’ve brought a mango!
I’ve been to Java!
I’ve bought a guava!
I have not seen you
For days fourteen!
Where have you been, dear,
Where have you been?
I have loved you, darling,
Since we met in Darjeeling!
Life has been full of beauty
Since we married in Ooty!
OUR SENSATIONAL NEWS
Shall we tell you our sensational news?
Will you tell us your funniest views?
A Greek playwright was walking once,
A crane was flying with a tortoise
Which slipped and fell on his bald head
The poor playwright died there at once!
Shall we tell you our sensational news?
Will you tell us your funniest views?
A bald husband divorced his wife
Who he had loved for her hair
Because he found to his despair
That she was wearing only a wig!
Shall we tell you our sensational news?
Will you tell us your funniest views?
A professor swallowed blotting paper
Because he found through his father
That he had drunk ink for his medicine
As he was then thinking of sin!
Shall we tell you our sensational news?
Will you tell us your funniest views?
A bankrupt man died of a shock.
While his kin were burying him,
He rose at once when someone said
That he had won a big lottery.
THE DREAMY, GREEDY OLD LADY
Once there lived a great old lady!
She dreamed like this, being greedy!
I have got a magic gold duck
That brings me wealth and health and luck!
I will now cut my duck open!
I will now get all eggs golden!
I am going to sell them all!
I will be the richest of all!
I’ll get my skin and teeth newer!
I will then drink magic nectar!
A comely prince will come and see!
At once he will love and wed me!
I am a greedy fool and found
Only one egg and flesh and blood!
What a bad luck! I killed my duck!
I feel hopeless, sad and helpless!
PREPOSITIONS
Prepositions always run
Before a Noun or Pronoun!
They convey my learner
The place and time and manner!
There is a town on the coast.
The West Indies off the coast.
Into the well jumped a lion.
Died in the well the poor lion!
Between the hills, a stream does flow.
Among the leaves, a rose does glow!
Beside the house, a bunk does lie.
Behind the house, some junk does lie!
Over the hat, a bat does fly.
Under the cat, a rat does lie.
Along the street, a man does stroll.
Across the street, a can does roll.
At one in the afternoon,
In the month of jolly June,
She sang sweetly a nice tune
And she caught her good fortune!
He’s not seen you for ten days.
They go to church on Sundays.
I have been here since Monday.
She stayed at home on Friday.
The poor always go train.
The rich travel in a plane.
Peddlers always go on foot
From door to door, selling fruit.

I am sure children would enjoy such grammar classes. I have tried playing a memory game to teach adjectives. The teacher can give an example.
eg. My father has an angry buffalo.
The first child continues by repeating the sentence adding an adjective of his own beginning with the letter 'b' like 'My father has an angry, bold buffalo'. The second child continues by saying 'My father has an angry, bold, cute buffalo'. The game continues with children coming up with adjectives using all the 26 letters of the alphabet. The 26th child completes the game by giving an adjective using the letter 'z' and ofcourse not forgetting all the adjectives used by his friends.

sure that pupils like listening to songs they are motivated by rythem
but Im not sure that they could get the words. i am talking for those whose english is their second language but I totally agree by the use of story especially if it's pictorial.
it's so easy to write techiniques of teaching on draf as an experienced teacher but when you are on the stage you will be baffled by the influence of the pupils .and they could change the trend of the lesson , it depends on the level of the class and their motivation

Dear Didi,
good evening.
Thank you for your nice comment.
I agree with you about the problem with English songs.
Second language learners find it diificult to follow the pronuciation.
We can stories for this.
But I have written the songs using grammar topics.
I wonder how we can use them to teach grammar.
Think and tell me if get an idea about it.
With warm regards
